Our final days in Durban were bitter sweet. We were excited to start our new adventure in Cape Town, but beyond sad to be leaving our beloved Durban. We spent our last week in a rural homestay in KwaZulu-Natal, in a town called Dodokweni. There was no running water and no plumbing but besides that, it didn't feel that different from living in Cato Manor.
While we were staying in rural we spent two days at a prison, hanging out with and getting to know the prisoners there. They had amazing stories, and by the end of our time together we had gotten really close with them. We also got to visit a school for a day and spend a ton of time with our families, eating sugar cane and exploring the area.
We also went on a hippo cruise and a game drive. The game drive was particularly amazing as we got to see elephants from less than six feet away. At one point they had surrounded our car- it was the most amazing experience!
After rural we only had a few days left in the city so we did everything we could; we went to the beach, visited our favorite bars and restaurants, and soaked in as much time with the other gals as we could.
